On 2 May 2019, a second debate of the Spitzenkandidaten (Manfred Weber – European People's Party, Guy Verhofstadt – Alliance of Liberal and Democrats for Europe, Ska Keller – European Greens Party, Frans Timmermans – Party of European Socialists) was held in Florence (Italy). The aim of the debate was to discuss again about European parties' positions about what the future of the European Union should be. Speakers touched upon economy (investments, taxes etc.), research and development, European institutional reform, EU foreign policy, environment, security (terrorism and other extremisms) and Euroscepticism.

Spitzencandidaten had once again emphasized the importance of collaboration when it comes to addressing and solving common European challenges and the need for more Europe.
